The Department for Education (DfE) has announced details for the 2022-2023 round of TCaF

The Department for Education (DfE) has announced details for the 2022-2023 round of Trust Capacity Fund (TCaF). The TCaF allows Academy Trusts to apply for additional funding to support strategic objectives and expand capacity to prepare for future growth.

Applications to apply for TCaF run from 1 April 2022 – 30 June 2022.

Key Points to Note

The DfE will be committing up to £86 million over the next three years.

All activities funded by TCaF must be completed by 31 March 2023.

TCaF 2022-2023 is organised into two strands, each with its own minimum and maximum grant values as follows:

1.      For projects in which Trusts take on at least one additional inadequate or requires improvement school from one of the areas listed in Annex A of the guidance (£50,000 - £310,000);

2.      For all other trust capacity building projects (£50,000 - £100,000).

TCaF applications must be linked to a clearly defined growth project that has been approved by a RSC between 1 January 2022 and 30 June 2022 by:

1.      taking at least one new school into your trust by 31 March 2024; or

2.      converting to academy status and taking on at least two new schools (with all schools to be taken into your trust by 31 March 2024).

Examples of eligible projects are as follows:

1.      applications from schools to convert to academy status and form a multi-academy trust (MAT)

2.      sponsor matches for schools with directive Academy Orders (dAOs)

3.      trust mergers, including a single academy trust (SAT) joining a larger MAT and SATs joining together to create new trusts

4.      academy transfers from one trust to another

5.      approved free school bid proposals.
